Mr Twister (2023) takes its title from Samuil Marshak’s satirical poem about a racist American capitalist’s travels to the USSR. In my version, the setting shifts to an opulent Viennese mansion inspired by neoclassical architecture. Each room stages one of the seven deadly sins in grotesque, caricatured form: greed, lust, and sloth unfold in scenes of vivid technicolour and theatrical excess. Where the original poem suggests satire, my painting embraces full-blown spectacle: violence, drama, and decadence erupt in every corner.
This work marks a culmination of my practice to date and a turning point into deeper explorations of power, hedonism, and exposure. The figures in Mr Twister are not only naked in body but stripped bare in metaphor, the door to the madhouse has been thrown open, and there is nowhere left to hide.

My practice is underpinned by a dynamic visual language, both in narrative and formal execution. Drawing upon my generational
memory of Soviet literature and cartoons, political satire features prominently in my work, expressed in a vibrant palette and exaggerated figurative style. My characters, who embody the cardinal but contemporary sins of greed, lust and wrath, seem to be in a state of perpetual motion or anticipation. This theme of movement is the entry point into my work.
